Andrea Celeste La Forgia is an artist based between London and Rotterdam. Combining archival research, painting, prop-making and spoken word performance, her practice interweaves family experience with historical class struggle to explore the personal and political implications of class dispossession. Seeking to capture the class-based affect embodied in contemporary labour, she questions promises of a better life, upward mobility, and social equality. Promises that gave hope to many but remain unfulfilled.

Andrea Celeste holds a BA from Camberwell College of Arts, London and an MA from Piet Zwart Institute, Rotterdam. Recent exhibitions and performances include Vrouwenproblemen: spinning the mechanisms of troublemaking at A Tale of a Tub (Rotterdam, NL), Didactic Poetry and Rot at Galerie Kirchgasse (Steckborn, CH), This art here is about other people’s art, via the detour of ‘work’ at Hopscotch Reading Room (Berlin, DE) and MAMA (Rotterdam, NL), I Must Be Living Twice at Palazzo Massimo (Venice, IT), John Moores Painting Prize at the Walker Art Gallery (Liverpool, UK) and The Independent at MAXXI (Rome, IT).
